Corporate Information

Citizens Rural Bank was incorporated in 2006 and opened its doors for business as a bank on September 7, 2007. It received its provisional license from Bank of Ghana on December 2, 2006. The tape cutting ceremony for the new bank to begin business was performed by the Paramount Chief of Akuapim South Otobour Nana Gyan Kwasi II. The bank was the brainchild of Dr. Samuel Asomaning who led a group of seven friends to promote it. The bank was founded during the 'golden decade' of banking in Ghana. The bank started work with a board of directors of 7 people led by Mr. Victor Nkansah of the Agricultural Development Bank as chairman.

The bank started work with a staff of 8 employees, three of whom are presently at the bank. At inception the bank had one branch that was located at the former premises of GCB Bank at Nsawam. The General Manager at the time was Mr. Hansen Asare Nketiah a former employee of GCB Bank. Due to cost considerations the functional divisions in a normal bank was non-existent at the time. All the divisions were fused into a branch and the General Manager doubled as the branch manager.

The bank has grown and expanded to include 3 branches comprising the Nsawam branch, Adeiso branch and the Adjen Kotoku branch. The bank currently has a staff of 52 and is organized into Head Office and the branches. The Head office is further organized into Operations and Treasury, credit department, an audit and compliance department, IT Department and an administrative section handling HR, and other administrative issues.

The bank has also a strong Susu wing. It is apparent that the bank has made a lot of progress from its humble beginnings in 2007. It’s currently ranked 13th out of the 145 Rural and Community Banks in Ghana.
